Sonoma landscape studies
2026, watercolor, ink, xuan paper, washi paper lantern
Two interpretations of the Sonoma coastline, exploring the dialogue between traditional Chinese landscape painting and the visual language of contemporary California printmaking. The monochromatic study draws on the techniques and aesthetics of Chinese ink painting, while its colorful counterpart reimagines the same landscape through saturated hues and graphic forms inspired by the woodblock prints of artist Tom Killion. Originally created for a series of interactive, hand-assembled scroll invitations and oversized paper lanterns for my wedding, the works bring together two distinct artistic traditions in a personal exploration of place, cultural identity, and visual translation.
